More than £2,000 was raised for Manx charity Crossroads Care during its Blue Day campaign.

Many took part in the initiative by wearing something blue for a £1 donation to raise as much as possible towards the charity which supports the island’s carers.

Led by technology and telecoms provider Wi-Manx, the appeal was held on November 9 with Isle of Man Newspapers turning its mastheads blue in support.

Wi-Manx kick-started the event with a £500 donation. Other participants included St Thomas’ School, Ramsey Grammar School, Isle of Man Post Office, Isle of Man Advertising, Zurich and Crossroads Care.

Douglas was also bathed in blue with the Tower of Refuge, Town Hall and street lights all changed to fit the theme.

The donations will contribute towards Crossroads’ £30,000 target this year to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

Crossroads chief executive Jackie Betteridge said: ’We have been overwhelmed by the support of our local community for Blue Day.

’It has been wonderful to see so many people get involved and on behalf of Crossroads Care I would like to thank everyone who participated by going blue or holding their own fundraisers.

’I would also like to thank Wi-Manx for their generous donation, and for leading this fundraising initiative.’

Sarah Read, Wi-Manx marketing manager, said: ’We were delighted to lead the Blue Day initiative to help support Crossroads Care with its anniversary appeal.

’The charity does so much fantastic work in the local community and the support received for the day in terms of fundraising and promotion of the initiative by businesses, organisations and schools has been extraordinary.’
