Braddan residents will not have their recycling collected for the foreseeable future.
It was confirmed by Braddan Commissioners that due to the developing Covid-19 pandemic.
Douglas Council had been due to take over the recycling contract from April 1, but due to the pressures on staff it is not possible for them to take on the additional work at this time.
For residents of Braddan, the local authority is recommending that they should take their recycling to one of the island’s bring banks. However, if these are closed, then the commissioners said ’regrettably you will have to place your recycling in your refuse bin’.
A statement from the board added: ’At the moment, we do not anticipate any disruption to the refuse collection, however this could be subject to change in the future, depending on how the Covid-19 situation develops.
’Domestic refuse collections will continue as normal on a Tuesday for the majority of residents. Certain areas in Braddan are changing to a Thursday collection from April 1 2020 and letters have already gone out to those areas that will be affected by this.
’Our refuse collectors will follow the recommended government guidelines to assist with preventing the spread of disease.’
The commissioners also warned that their staff will not be collecting and side waste, bags placed next to bins, and that bin lids should be closed.
