Isle of Man cyclist Matthew Bostock clinched a sensational Commonwealth Games gold medal on Sunday afternoon.

The 29-year-old from Glen Vine recorded a stunning victory in the men’s 40km points race in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow to claim only the fourth gold medal in Team Isle of Man’s history at the Commonwealth Games.

Bocky - aided by team-mate Ben Swift - lapped the field several times while picking up a good number of points in the intermediate sprints to pip powerhouse nations such as New Zealand and Australia by three points to grace the top step on the podium.

Australia’s Oliver Bleddyn took silver, with New Zealand’s George Jackson collecting bronze.

Bocky follows in the footsteps of Peter Buckley, Nigel Kelly and Sir Mark Cavendish in winning gold medals at Commonwealth Games level and is the first to win one since the latter in 2006.
