Maisie Belcher-Smith,from Ballabeg, completed a 100-mile walking challenge across the island and raised more than £600 for the Manx Stroke Foundation.

The nine-year-old undertook the walk as part of a challenge set by her Brownie group, which involved a 100-mile walk over a number of weeks.

Her mother, Claire, said: ’Maisie said if she was going to walk 100 miles, then she would like to do it for a charity. When asked which one she said she wanted to raise funds for the Manx Stroke Foundation as seven and a half years ago her grandmother had a massive stroke which has left her paralysed down one side, and unfortunately last month had been put in a nursing home.

’Her grandmother was very young and she wanted the funds to go there to help her grandmother and other people like her to get some extra support.’

Maisie found the coast-to-coast walk fun with added wood carvings to look at along the way, as well as it being interesting to see where the train used to run. She said her favourite walks were walking around the coasts of Port Erin and Port St Mary, as they were by the sea.
