Two packed houses witnessed a night unlike many you get to see at the Peel Centenary centre.
The dancers strutted across the stage effortlessly in high heels, clad in little but fishnet tights and feather boas, gyrating and hip-thrusting to the music.
And that was just the men.
The women of The Burlesque Isle of Man troupe were far more unrestrained.
Wonderfully led by the glamorous and exuberant Jooles Morrison, appearing as Madame Zuri Arrosa, the burlesque group twirled their way through one dance routine after another, and through a myriad of costume changes.
Principal dancer, Miss DeeDee, otherwise known as Rachel Crellin, performed several eye-catching dance numbers, some graceful, aided by a pair of silver angel wings, and some completely over-the top, delightfully camp and utterly outrageous, such as her ’Big Fat Burlesque Wedding’, which had the largely-female crowd cheering loudly.
She was matched by the routines performed by Angel X, better known as Hazel Walsh, who thrilled with a decidedly risqué balloon-popping dance which left nothing to the imagination.
They were backed by Trixie Vixie and Sapphire la Sass, Sophie Keating and Sarah Callow, and a trio of ’kittens’, helped by two drag artists, Mark Bamford and the larger-than-life Vida La Fierce,
The audience was even given a lesson in erotic dancing, with some unrepeatable instructions offered by Madame Zuri.
’I was completely blown away with our audience’s response over the two nights,’ said Jooles.
’There was no lack of enthusiasm when it came to encouraging them to join in with us either. Also, the audience really understood our message of body confidence and empowerment. I couldn’t be happier with how the run went.’
