It’s caused a positive buzz on social media, but rumours of Bushy’s looking to buy Paramount City in Douglas have been shut down by its boss.

Members of the public, including MHKs, flocked to Bushy’s Brewery’s Facebook page to share their encouragement when a post hinted interest in acquiring the former nightclub on Queen’s promenade.

When questioned about the possibility, boss Martin Brunnschweiler - who does not govern the company’s Facebook page - said: ’It isn’t anything we’re interested in.

’I wish we were still doing stuff like that but I don’t think the club market is what it used to be. It used to be busy back in the day.’

The company previously ran a pub on Victoria Street, Douglas, with some residents fondly remembering its eclectic mix of knick-knacks.

The Facebook post read: ’It’s the other end of the prom, but if we installed an Anglia jukebox and a red telephone box (and put a Victorian clock outside)... would you come to a new Bushy’s Bar?

’Then again, we’re busy enough planning this year’s Bushy’s TT Village - no need to make more work for ourselves just yet!’

More than 600 people have liked the post.

Daphne Caine, Garff MHK, said: ’Just had a massive wave of nostalgia. I’d say yes yes yes! But great if there’s also a quieter space jazz/blues bar maybe upstairs for the oldies?’

The vast majority of the comments were positive but some people described it as an expensive gamble.’

The asking price for Paramount City, previously the Crescent, is £550,000.
