Dozens of businesses have been helped by an advisory service launched last month by Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce.
The Business Advisory Service (BAS) is free and open to all Isle of Man businesses, whether or not they are Chamber members.
It works by connecting those needing help and support with experienced professionals among Chamber’s 450 strong membership.
Jessica Kitchin, who is spearheading the service, said: ’The type of help we are providing falls broadly into two types.
Firstly, there is practical help - especially regarding how to apply for emergency government funding and private sector bank loans, or developing new business plans for those companies that need to diversify.
’Secondly, because the impact that Covid-19 had on the economy happened so fast, many business owners - especially small companies or sole traders - have understandably struggled to cope with the shock and stress that it has caused. In that context mentors have provided moral and emotional support which, in the current situation, is equally important as practical assistance.’
Among the businesses that have been helped is Quay Dental based in Clinches Court, North Quay, Douglas.
Catherine Jowett, practice manager and director, said: ’The mentor appointed to me was excellent and put my mind at ease, guiding me in the right direction and making herself available for any future support I may need. BAS is providing a very valuable service to businesses, and it’s great to be able to utilise it quickly and efficiently.’
Topics covered by BAS include tax, accountancy, HR, marketing, legal, operational support, entrepreneurial thinking, health and wellbeing, pensions and insurance.
The service can also be useful for business people that just need moral support from more experienced peers within their sector. BAS is available via a user-friendly online platform accessible via www.iomchamber.org.im
