The Isle of Man Bank is replacing the roof on its branch in Athol Street, Douglas.

The building was designed by celebrated architect Marshall Mackenzie of Aberdeen and opened its doors on June 9, 1902.

The roof was in need of repair and due to its registered status, special slate has been used to ensure the integrity of the building.

Stuart Chivers of the Isle of Man Bank said: ’Athol Street is a local landmark and an important part of our banking heritage on the island so it is only right that we ensure it is safeguarded for the future.

’Replacing the roof means that customers from generations to come will be able to visit and enjoy the interior whilst carrying out their banking needs.

’We’re proud to be able to secure this historic registered building.’

When the bank ripped out a lot of the traditional fixtures inside the building a few years ago, it came in for a lot of criticism.
