Golfers dug deep into their pockets to help raise more than £32,000 for two island good causes
Suntera Global hosted a charity golf day at Castletown Golf Links, where they raised £20,270 for Hospice Isle of Man.
And the 2021 Mike Henthorn Cruse Memorial Golf Day at Peel amassed £12,000 for Cruse Bereavement Care in the island.
The Castletown event saw 22 teams brave the elements to compete for prizes such as the longest drive, straightest drive and nearest the pin.
The event also raised significant funds through the raffle, which saw prizes such as a session on a golf simulator and a helicopter ride donated by Yellow Helicopters auctioned off, with £9,000 raised by three highly collectible ’wallababy’ statues from the Hospice’s Wallabies Gone Wild trail.
Melanie Kermeen, director of income development and relationships at Hospice Isle of Man, said: ’The past 12 months have been a particularly challenging year for fundraising.’
The Peel event was in tribute to Mike Henthorn, a local business figure and former vice-chairman of the charity, Cruse.
The day attracted 24 teams, with Andrew Moody, Michael Moore, Mark Potts and John Reynolds emerging the winning team.
Ahead of the prize presentations, Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man chairman Sam Skelton said that thanks to the long-standing support of Celton Manx the charity had benefited by some £90,000 as a direct result of the golf days.
He added that Mike Henthorn continued to be much missed, both as an ardent supporter of the charity and as a friend and colleague. In closing he said he was delighted that the ’Henthorn legacy’ was continuing, with Mike Henthorn’s widow, Janet, presenting the prizes and his son, Mark, serving as a Cruse volunteer.
