The total amount raised for local charities through Isle of Man Sporting and Dining Club events has now reached more than £100,000.

Since the club was established in 2006, a total of nearly 100 events - many of which were sell-outs -have helped raise the sum of £106,273.36 - all donated to more than 60 different local charities.

Leaders in their fields, featured guests have represented a diverse range of backgrounds, not just sportsmen and women, and for many it has been their first visit to the Isle of Man. John Wannenburgh of the Sporting and Dining Club, said: ’This is a testament to the generosity of the sponsors, the club members and all those who have attended events over the years. Everyone’s ongoing support of the events allows us to raise much-needed funds for the different charities each year.’

One very popular annual event is the Question of Sport, sponsored by PwC Isle of Man since its inception in 2012. Following the most recent event, Ian Clague, senior partner at PwC Isle of Man, said: ’This is always a sell-out event and everyone who takes part enjoy themselves. On behalf of everyone at the firm, I’d like to thank John Wannenburgh and the Isle of Man Sporting and Dining Club for organising another superb night’s entertainment.’

John Cuddy from Save the Children, one of the recipients of charity funds from that event, said: ’Thanks so much for including the Save the Children in your fundraising. This will be well used by the charity in these difficult times.’

Sandra Cardwell, managing director of Sporting and Dining Club main sponsor Edgewater Associates Limited said: ’We’ve seen over time the difference the amounts raised for the nominated local charities can make and we’re looking forward to help raise more through the club’s great programme of events.’

Mike Hennessy of Sancus (IOM) Ltd and a long-time supporter of the club said: ’John works tirelessly to provide top-drawer speakers from the world of sport and celebrity and the events are always an enjoyable date in the diary.

’The charity funds raised add an extra welcome dimension to the overall occasion and help contribute to the broader Isle of Man community.

On a personal level, I am delighted to have been involved with the club through sponsorship since its very inception in 2006.

’Well done John.’
