At DQ Advocates we understand that nothing is more important than family, writes Rose Kinrade of DQ.
We also understand the profound effects disputes can have on families.
So, we strive to provide the advice and support you need to protect your interests and those of your loved ones.
Family law covers a broad spectrum of different issues, from divorce and children’s matters to cohabitation and complex financial concerns.
Aware that family and relationship problems can sometimes lead to legal stresses, DQ is committed to approaching them with sensitivity and confidentiality.
Current divorce law is entirely out of step with modern thinking.
Unless you are willing (or indeed financially able) to wait for two years, under current law you must effectively attribute some blame to one party for the breakdown of your marriage; either by saying that they have committed adultery, or by detailing the behaviour which you find it intolerable to live with.
This can cause unnecessary animosity between parties, especially where there is perhaps no definite blame to detail, but it is the case that the couple has simply grown apart.
When couples who want an amicable split are forced into assigning blame, it is at best uncomfortable and can be extremely damaging, particularly when there are children involved.
DQ’s family law team works hard to minimise the hurt, disruption and expense faced when resolving such issues.
Not only do we provide guidance and experience across a broad range of family matters but we work alongside the Manx Citizens’ Advice Bureau and offer a half hour free-of-charge consultation to allow for an initial discussion.
It can often be very daunting to seek advice about family problems or relationship difficulties so we ensure there are no nasty surprises and guide you through the process.
Of course, no two cases or scenarios are the same but shifting the emphasis from blame to resolution is often essential for all parties involved in any kind of dispute, not least if children are caught up in it.
At DQ, we understand the breakdown of any relationship can be an extremely difficult time especially when important decisions need to be made.
However, our family team always aims to provide a sensible and personal approach and provide advice tailored to an individual’s circumstances and requirements.
Statistics show fewer people are getting married than they were a decade ago and so a planned overhaul of reform in England and Wales which will allow for a no-fault divorce to be recognised is to be welcomed. This move is hopefully also going to become the position in the Isle of Man and is currently being consulted upon by the Isle of Man Government.
DQ always places great emphasis on resolving differences.
If you need expert advice on any aspect of family law, DQ Advocates will be at your side.
