Simcocks Advocates hosted a grand celebration of the firm’s 70th year anniversary, raising £1,600 for its charity of the year, Manx Workshop for the Disabled.

The law firm, which was founded in 1949 by Howard Simcocks, held a dinner at Woodbourne House for its staff and business associates.

Friends and colleagues enjoyed a champagne reception to the music of 4Tissimo string quartet, then a meal, followed by entertainment.

Simcocks’ probate manager, Laura Connolly, created a law themed cake for the occasion, which was auctioned off, adding to the total raised during the evening through generous donations from the guests.

In a short speech, chief executive Phil Games reminisced about his time working with Howard Simcocks and Mike Kerruish, who shaped the company during his time as director.

Many amusing anecdotes were shared, and past staff and long-serving team members were lauded, including Carol Quayle, who has worked for the law firm for 44 years.

After-dinner entertainment was provided by Joe Corrigan’s Brit Pack, a rat pack inspired group of singers who belted out a range of swing and pop music, to which the guests danced until late into the night.

Director, Irini Newby said: ‘Our 70th anniversary party was certainly an event to be remembered.

‘It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our firm, its history and its future, as well as thanking those people who have contributed to its success.’
