A second Douglas travel agent shop is currently closed following the collapse of Thomas Cook.

Freedom Travel in Strand Street has signs in its window saying it is closed following the liquidation of the Thomas Cook Group, of which it is part.

An ABTA website offering advice for travellers said: ’Thomas Cook Group Plc operated several businesses that sold holidays and other travel arrangements, including five companies that are ABTA Members.’

Included in that list is Freedom Travel Group Limited, which includes the Isle of Man branch and has the same registered head office address as Thomas Cook Group Plc.

The first sign in the window said: ’We are currently closed due to the collapse of Thomas Cook Group Plc.

’We are having to prioritise customers who have existing bookings and are currently in resort or are due to travel within the next month. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.’

The second sign refers to the collapse of Thomas Cook as a ’devastating blow to the travel industry and all the customers due to travel with them’.

It added: ’From today and until we have dealt with all our Thomas Cook customers, we feel it is not right for us to take any new bookings with any operators due to our team concentrating on helping the customers we already have who need our help.

’Please be patient with us at this difficult time, we are doing our absolutely best and will aim to deal with everyone as quick as possible.’

Freedom Travel said it is currently working to assist customers booked through Thomas Cook, however one passenger we spoke to said they were just being referred to Thomas Cook and the CAA.

The company’s phone number rings out to a voicemail message informing people that it is currently closed due to the collapse of Thomas Cook.
