The police have been informed that hackers have been able to gain access to some Manx business’ email addresses.
Over the past couple of days, they have been sending emails to customers requesting deposits for orders are paid directly to the supplier rather than the company the customer has ordered from.
These emails will come from the companies themselves and will appear normal, but they are not sent by the actual company.
A police spokesman said: ’If you have been asked to pay a deposit into a ’suppliers’ account, please contact with the company locally via the phone or similar to verify any requests.
’Please also conduct due diligence on any bank account you are being asked to transfer funds to.’
