Seamus Nugent, managing director of Dandara, won the award for Business Leader of the Year at last year’s Isle of Man Newspapers’ Awards for Excellence.

This is the one category at the awards in which entry is by the judges’ nomination only.

In this extraordinary year the Awards for Excellence has focussed on community involvement with a wide range of award categories reflecting this.

The award for Business Leader of the Year has this year become Leader of the Year, reflecting the fact that it might be won by, for example the leader of a charitable organisation which has supported the island, the leader of a medical team on the frontline during the pandemic, or even a politician.

Whoever wins the award this year will have a lot to be proud of.

Speaking of his win last year, Mr Nugent said: ’It was an absolute delight to receive this honour at the 2019 Awards for Excellence.

’It is not only testament to Dandara’s ongoing commitment to the Isle of Man, the community and the economy but our incredible team here in the island, who I am immensely proud of.

’To be named Business Leader of the Year was a complete surprise and I was honoured to be recognised by the Awards for Excellence judges in this way. However, Dandara’s success is very much the result of all involved in the business so we celebrated this accolade very much as a team.

’We have proudly supported the Awards for Excellence for a number of years and in such a challenging year, it’s an opportunity for us to join together and celebrate those who have made such a positive contribution to our island community and I’d urge everyone to get involved if they can.’

â?¢ Although the award for Leader of the Year is by judge’s nomination only, there are plenty of other categories you can enter this year, including Doing the Impossible During the Pandemic, Our Local Heroes, Protecting our Environment and Caring for the Island’s Wellbeing.

The awards are open to businesses of all sizes, individuals, charitable and cultural organisations and public sector teams and you can enter more than one category. If you need advice about which category to enter and what makes a good entry you can call Trudi Williamson on 695694
