The Mannin has become one of the first hotels in the island to sign up to the UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man pledge.
In doing so, the hotel agrees to support the six principles of the pledge.
These are to help to:
Protect the island’s natural resources;
Develop the economy in a sustainable way;
Support and promote the island’s cultural heritage;
Make its environmental impact positive wherever possible;
Engage with the local community;
Promote the island’s outstanding living landscape and seascape through active involvement with UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man.
The Broadway, Douglas based Mannin Hotel’s general manager, Rom Kesa, said: ‘The Mannin Hotel opened in 2016, the same year as the island gained UNESCO Biosphere status, and it has always been our policy to operate our business as environmentally and ethically responsible as possible. We are proud to be leading the way in the island’s hospitality industry by becoing a UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man partner, which also complements our award for Best Innovation in the Private Sector category at the 2017 Isle of Man Energy Awards.
‘Promoting the island as a special place to live, work and visit - and protecting its unique qualities - is embedded in our business culture.
‘Practices such as responsible waste management, minimising paper volumes, harnessing the potential of smart technology and limiting our carbon footprint shape all that we do.
‘We believe the Mannin Hotel can make lasting positive contributions, not only to the Manx economy and the island’s UNESCO Biosphere status, but also to the Isle of Man’s international reputation as a nation committed to providing a truly exceptional quality of life for generations to
come.’
