An island chartered accountant has told the Examiner he will be ’taking it on the chin and moving on’ after being reprimanded by a professional organisation.
Guy Wiltcher added that he would not be appealing against the decision of the disciplinary committee of ACCA, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, which also ordered him to pay more than £8,000 in costs.
Mr Wiltcher is the managing partner of Greystone, a firm of chartered accountants, based in Athol Street, Douglas.
ACCA announced it was alleged that Mr Wiltcher on or about July 22, 2016, produced a report which fell below the standards expected, in that it did not comply with one or more of the requirements expressed in the civil procedure rules (CPR) or its practice direction (PD).
It was said that his conduct in relation to the allegation was contrary to the fundamental principle of competence and due care.
The committee ordered that Mr Wiltcher be reprimanded and pay costs to ACCA in the sum of £8,094.
Mr Wiltcher told the Examiner: ’ACCA originally levelled five charges against me, including one of misconduct - all of which I robustly contested.
’In the end I admitted to one, which was that, whilst a report I’d written was technically correct didn’t meet the requirements of a prescribed code.
’The others, including the misconduct allegation, were dropped.
’In answer to your question do I intend to appeal the decision ? - no I don’t intend contesting the matter further.
’Given that the majority of the allegations were dropped and that the reprimand is at the lower end of possible disciplinary findings, I’ll just be taking it on the chin and moving on.’
According to Greystone’s website Mr Wiltcher is a chartered accountant and chartered tax advisor.
He joined the firm as a partner in 2006 and became managing partner in 2011.
He oversees the audit practice and is responsible for the firm’s tax work which includes a broad portfolio of compliance and advisory matters, encompassing Isle of Man as well as UK and international tax. He is a past chairman of the Isle of Man branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
ACCA says it has 227,000 members in 176 countries and ’upholds the highest professional and ethical values.’
It adds: ’Since 1904 being a force for public good has been embedded in our purpose.
’Through our world leading ACCA qualification we offer everyone everywhere the opportunity to experience a rewarding career in accountancy, finance and management.’
