Isle of Man based businesswoman and Tory peer Michelle Mone described a Scottish Nationalist MP as a 'moron’ in a Twitter row this afternoon over her contributions to the House of Lords.
Ms Mone also told Glasgow South MP Stewart McDonald:'Off you trot & get on with your day job’ after he said she had not submitted any written questions to the UK Government since being appointed to the upper chamber in 2015.
The businesswoman from Glasgow, who lives in the island with boyfriend Doug Barrowman, responded that she had taken part in 78 votes in the Lords, not two, as Mr McDonald had suggested.
Baroness Mone’s furious response came after the SNP MP mocked her new jewellery line, being sold on a television shopping channel.
He said on Twitter: 'Since becoming a baroness and legislator – for which she is entitled to £300 per day – Ms Mone has submitted no questions to the government and taken part in only two votes.
'Still, she’s sold some jewellery.’
She replied on Twitter:'What are u talking about u SNP moron! I have voted over 78 times, not twice! I’m a global entrepreneur with 9 biz interests not a full time MP like u.
'The difference is I’m a baroness for life, whereas u will be out of ur MP job in no time.’
She added: 'My £300 allowance goes to charity, what do you do with your £316 per day? Now off you trot & get on with your day job.’
Mr McDonald clarified what he had said a short time later with this: 'Sorry you’re right, you’ve walked down the voting corridor 78 times and spoken in two debates. Some record.’
This sparked another angry response from Ms Mone who said: 'If you want to compare track records/bios we can but I know who will win. Now stop being a walter mitty & concentrate on improving your disaster of a party.’
Ms Mone who founded the Ultimo lingerie brand and is now preparing to launch another lingerie business, is a high profile businesswoman.
She and Mr Barrowman were featured together in a sumptuous spread in a glossy magazine last year at the home they share in the Isle of Man.
The Twitter row sparked many comments on social media this afternoon.
