Car company boss James Mylchreest has stressed it is business as usual as the firm offers up a 3,500 sq/ft showroom and office for lease.
The showroom used by Mylchreests Motors Ltd is no longer required because of a consolidation of the business into adjacent premises on New Castletown Road, Douglas.
Mr Mylchreest said the main stipulation is that it cannot be used for car sales, service or repair.
As reported by Business News in January Mr Mylchreest took over as managing director from his father David who had been at the helm for nearly 40 years. Mr Mylchreest senior remains chairman of the company.
James Mylchreest said: ’Quite simply it is the case that we are consolidating business under one roof.
’Simply put the level of business we are doing can all be done under one roof.
’It is not because we are downsizing or anything like that, it is really surplus. We can operate as we have done for the last number of years at the same level under one roof rather than two.
’Everything is just going into the main building.’
The Mylchreests say it is the longest continually family car ownership in the island.
Today the company represents the brands of Jaguar and Land Rover along with Subaru, Mitsubishi and Vauxhall.
When he took over as managing director Mr Mylchreest told Business News he is not afraid to ’lead from the front and get under car bonnets if necessary’.
He explained that during the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic a small number of staff were retained mainly working on emergency repairs for cars owned by key workers in the island.
The business has now been back to full working for around a fortnight and Mr Mylchreest said that it has been busy. This has included the workshop where there has been a flood of repairs needed for cars, many of which have been parked up for the best part of three months.
Mr Mylchreest, who used to be a mechanic in the army, said cars don’t like being left idle for too long.
Chrystals is looking after the commercial leasing opportunity describing it as a ’rare opportunity to lease a well-presented 3,500 sq/ft showroom including mezzanine level. The showroom area has space for a reception or desk area and staircase to a mezzanine floor. The mezzanine area includes a manager’s office, staff kitchen, WC and shower facilities.
’The property is in excellent condition and occupies a good sized site with prominent main road frontage. There is easy access with side sliding doors and a main customer entrance.’
There is also customer parking for up to 15 cars.
