Lloyds Bank customers in Castletown and Peel can now use their local post offices for banking.
The bank’s branches in the towns shut in January, so the customers have had to bank online or go into Douglas in the mean time.
On Tuesday the post office began offering face-to-face banking transactions for customers, such as paying in cheques, limited value cash deposits, and withdrawals.
The closure the branches upset a lot of traditional customers. Local politicians expressed concern.
But it’s hardly simply a Lloyds issue.
For example, since 2010, the Isle of Man Bank has shut its branches in Kirk Michael, Laxey, Onchan, Ballasalla and Prospect Terrace, Douglas.
Post offices have been struggling and the Post Office has been losing money.
So anything that increases footfall in them will be a boost for them.
Mary Gaffney, the Post Office’s general manager for retail and customer service, said: ’We are delighted to be able to offer them a convenient solution for some of their banking needs and we think that this will be a great addition to our service range at these post offices.’
