The cafe at the Sound is in the running to be crowned Britain’s Best Biker Cafe and winner of the Golden Sausage award.
Motor Cycle News (MCN) runs the competition for bikers to choose their favourite cafe from across the British Isles.
This year’s 11 finalists were chosen by MCN guest writer Justin Hayzelden.
The Sound Cafe, which has built up a good following from bikers during TT, is up against cafes from all around Britain including Biker’s Cove, South Queensferry, Scotland.
In his piece about the cafe, Justin said: ’The most outstanding feature of the cafeÌ is a vast panoramic window, perfect for wildlife watching, and inside we find that it’s clean, modern and airy, with friendly staff eager to welcome a soggy biker.
’We order up "A Sound Way to Break the Fast", a traditional breakfast packed full of tasty ingredients. At £10.95 it’s one of the most pricey plates of grub we’ve come across on our tour, but given the spectacular location and the quality of the nosh we can’t complain.’
The cafe is run by Rebecca and Sam Thompson and Sarah and Adrian Christian. Adrian explained that each member of the family brings their own expertise to the businesness.
He said they only discovered MCN had been in when a customer told them the cafe was featured in the magazine.
Justin visited during last year’s TT when rain stopped racing for several days, giving plenty of time to explore the island.
Adrian added: ’It is nice to be recognised. During TT fortnight the car park is like a sea of bikes and we’re not a place you drive past, people have to want to come here.’
The cafe thanked its customers ’who have made this possible’ on its Facebook page.
As the Courier went to press, the Sound Cafe was in second place with 18.4% of the vote, behind Biker’s Cove, with 27.8%.
