Manx Telecom has launched a range of what it describes as ‘SIP Trunk solutions’ which deliver voice and data services, and which the company claims can help to improve efficiency and reduce costs for businesses of all sizes.

SIP Trunk technology is described as a ‘future-proof, flexible, resilient and competitive alternative to ISDN services’.

A spokesman said that in the years ahead, all forward-thinking businesses will move to this technology, and Manx Telecom’s launch of its Optimal Voice SIP Trunk solutions means it continues to lead the way in the island’s telecommunications sector.

Stephen Kane, head of Retail Products at Manx Telecom, said: ‘We believe now is the right time to make the transformation from ISDN to SIP Trunks.

‘Our business customers have asked for it.

‘Now with our new all-island Carrier Ethernet network we can offer an unparalleled service with the Optimal Voice platform functioning from our two, wholly owned and managed, on-island data centres linking directly into the public telephone network here in the Isle of Man.

‘Not all SIP Trunk providers can say that.’

He added: ‘Optimal Voice has the ability to scale up and down as and when necessary to suit changing demands, which means that customers only pay for the number of channels they need, when they need it.

‘Optimal Voice also has a role to play in creating virtual desktop solutions – and in the longer-term, our SIP Trunk technology will provide a platform with the potential to support the development of many other new services. Indeed our customers will be able to have multiple services such as SIP Trunks, Hosted VoIP, Internet and cloud services delivered down a single circuit.’

Mr Kane continued: ‘Having contacted our ISDN customers and explained the options available to those migrating from ISDN to an Optimal Voice solution, the process will be carefully managed by a team of 15 specialists, including Manx Telecom staff and advisers from Flint International, the internationally renowned telecoms consultancy which works with the biggest names in the industry, including Telefónica/O2 and EE/BT.

‘Customers have the choice of retaining the use of ISDN by opting for one of our gateways to convert the SIP Trunk back to ISDN for use on their equipment, and whether they choose to do this or go with the SIP option, they can still use all their existing phone numbers.’ Optimal Voice SIP Trunk is said to be a 100 per cent on-island initiative.
