A new online gaming operation is set to bring a number of jobs to the island after being granted an e-gaming licence.

5D International aims to establish a management and operations base in the Isle of Man, covering functions such as compliance, customer support, administration and finance and operations support.

The business, which was established in June 2020, will also outsource a number of support services to local service providers, including hosting, accounting, audit, legal and marketing.

It is unclear how many jobs will be created at this stage.

The operation stems from a long established and commercially successful online gaming business - 5Dimes - which was formed in Costa Rica, in November 1999, offering software and gaming opportunities.

An island professional service advisor played a role in obtaining the e-gaming licence.

Trust and corporate service provider Wilton, whose local operation is based in Athol Street, Douglas, assisted 5D and Island Casino (5D International) with its application to the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission (GSC).

It will see the online sportsbook, games and casino business create jobs on the island after the GSC approved the licence in principle.

Wilton’s managing partner Tony Flanagan said: ’We are extremely proud to have supported 5D International in its licence application, one which has the potential to provide an exciting opportunity for the Isle of Man in general and our gaming sector in particular.

’Holding an Isle of Man licence offers credibility in the marketplace and further promotes the Isle of Man as a strong, forward-thinking and pro-active licensing jurisdiction. The Isle of Man’s reputation for excellence and innovation is attracting more and more companies in niche areas of e-gaming and our supportive ecosystem and financial aid on offer is helping them to thrive when they arrive.’

Executive director Nicole Hewson said: ’As a financial services company which prides itself on establishing long-lasting relationships with business partners and clients, we enjoyed working alongside 5D, a business which is clearly is committed to the Isle of Man.’
