Jim Duncan, the founder of the family business Ramsey Bakery Limited and a passionate supporter of all things Manx has died aged 69.
The much-loved father of two and grandfather of five died at the Isle of Man Hospice on Thursday, June 14 after a long battle with illness.
Members of his family were by his side when he passed away peacefully.
Ramsey Bakery was opened in 1972 in Bowring Road, Ramsey by Mr Duncan and his wife Caroline and the family continue to run the business which comprises a purpose-built bakery in Station Road, Ramsey and a number of retail outlets in the island.
Mr Duncan leaves his daughter, Cheryl and his son, Andy. He also leaves grandchildren Oliver, Megan, Nathan, Imogen and Tobias.
The funeral service will be held at St Paul’s Church, Ramsey on Tuesday June 26 at 11am.
Mrs Duncan told the Examiner that her late husband had continued to remain actively involved in the bakery despite his illness up to the time of his death.
Mrs Duncan said everyone at the bakery was working together to maintain the usual high level of service.
Jim was a passionate supporter of Manx agriculture and local food businesses.
The bakery has always supported Laxey Glen Mills and it is the company’s policy that, where possible, Manx ingredients are always used in the making of the bakery’s products.
Jim had always been involved in the Manx community, especially in the north of the island.
He had been a long time active member of Ramsey Rotary Club, a past president of the club and a holder of a Paul Harris Fellowship, an honour bestowed by the Rotary movement.
His many community interests included sponsorship of Ramsey Rugby Club and Northern Athletics Club and for many years Mr Duncan was actively involved in island cycling, both as a competitor and formerly the sponsor of the Manx Road Club.
Many messages of support are being received after the news of Mr Duncan’s death has become generally known.
Ramsey MHK, Dr Alex Allinson, praised Mr Duncan for the way he stood up for Manx businesses and the local community.
