Software development company PDMS has appointed DW Maritime as an independent advisor.

The consultancy is run by Dick Welsh.

He is a well-known figure in the global maritime sector.

Mr Welsh has more than 40 years’ experience, as a marine engineer, class and flag state surveyor and director of the Isle of Man Ship Registry,

Mr Welsh was the driving force behind the ship registry. He forged its global reputation including leading its digital transformation before his retirement last year.

In recognition of his contribution to the sector he was awarded an MBE and the Mersey Maritime, Maritime Ambassador’s Award in March this year.

PDMS has experience in the maritime sector, including providing software and services for global ship registries.

A spokesman said: ’PDMS is an active member of the Isle of Man maritime community.

’Director Bruce McGregor regularly attends key international maritime events and is a member on the executive board of Isle of Man Maritime.

’Mr Welsh will be working closely with Mr McGregor and our business development team to expand and enhance our maritime expertise. Dick will help to facilitate and enhance relationships with new and existing clients and work with us to identify opportunities where PDMS’ digital expertise can add value.’

Mr McGregor said: Our great relationship with Dick goes back many years, so he has a solid understanding of PDMS’ capabilities and areas where our services can really enhance maritime businesses.

’Since retiring as the director, and globally recognised figurehead of the Isle of Man Ship Registry, Dick maintains his position as an active and dynamic member of the international maritime community.’
