Law firm Mann Benham’s first online gaming conference has been hailed a great success.

Speaking minutes after the event at the Sefton Hotel, Douglas, had ended, managing director Miles Benham told Business News he was delighted.

Mr Benham said: ’We had a full house and we had some great speakers, some great discussions and interesting topics were covered.

’Hopefully this will be the first of many, I hope there is a demand for it and here in the island we have to keep it positive, show the skills we have got and show this is a great place to do business.

’I think events such as this give everyone within the industry the opportunity to get together and explain what we can do. It is a place to do business.’

Mr Benham said they made the day very much compliance focused ’so we looked at the issues of anti-money laundering and KYC, knowing your customer, and basically how technology can assist. So we had anumber of technology companies along.’

These included Jarrod Epps of the technology company Goldilock, who flew in from San Francisco to speak.

Mr Benham said Goldilock uses new technology that helps to make the whole compliance procedure easier.

’Regulation is growing globally so we need to be looking at technology to ease the regulatory burden, so that staff can use their time more efficiently using technology and their skills get better results.’

Mr Benham said the event was effectively also a launch for Mann Benham’s advisory team.

Speakers also included Colin Tansley of island-based Intelect Solutions which is involved in cyber security and customer due diligence.

Mr Tansley gave the audience at the Sefton a look at some of the company’s work. Other highlights included a panel discussion on ’know your customer’, due diligence and client profiling. Mr Tansley was also involved in this along with Scott Young of Mayfly Entertainment, Kathryn Kiggins of Deloitte, Steve Heeney from CyberScience, Peter Murray from Alexem Services and Jarrod Epps from Goldilock.

Stephen Trimble from Continent 8 made a presentation on gaming and the United States.
