Manx Telecom’s rival Sure is offering cheaper data roaming in some countries.

But the best deal applies only to the UK, France and the Republic of Ireland.

Earlier this week Manx Telecom announced 90% reductions in data roaming costs.

Sure’s ’roaming booster’ reduces the cost of data roaming in the UK, Ireland and France to 12p/MB and the rest of the EU to 30p.

The booster, which costs £6 per month and can be switched off at any time, also cuts the cost of data roaming elsewhere in the world, or making calls and sending texts while abroad, by half.

’Twelve pence per megabyte is a much lower price than previously available and so represents excellent value for money,’ said Mike Fawkner-Corbett, head of product at Sure.

’We’ve been able to achieve such low pricing by creating a booster package that focuses particularly on those countries most visited by our customers.

’Because the booster is flexible and can be turned on or off at any time, it puts our customers in control, enabling regular travellers to keep it going as part of their monthly subscription, and less frequent travellers to use it only when they’re abroad.

’As well as delivering lower prices, we’re also committed to preventing our customers from receiving unexpectedly high bills using data roaming limits. These prevent unintentional overspend by automatically stopping further data roaming once a pre-set limit has been reached.’

Sure’s new ’roaming booster’ became available from Monday.
