Telecoms firm Sure is now the sole provider of internet services to the government.

It’s a coup for the company, which says winning the ’significant’ contract is proof that Sure, which launched mobile phone services in the Isle of Man in 2007, is now an established local provider.

’This is a great endorsement,’ a spokesman said, ’demonstrating that we can compete for these large tenders and win them.’

Sure already provides mobile services to the government. Manx Telecom previously held the contract for internet services.

Chief executive of Sure Isle of Man Mike Phillips said: ’Our team worked incredibly hard throughout the tender process to design a proposition that not only meets the government’s requirements but exceeds them.

’The new Sure service increases internet capacity, enabling the government to harness the full potential of new digital technologies and services and supports the government’s digital strategy.’
