The continued expansion of independent financial services company FIM Capital has instigated a review of the executive management structure and a number of new appointments.

Philip Scales is standing down as managing director and has been appointed as deputy chairman.

After more than 40 years working offshore in third party fund administration, Philip is relinquishing his role in the day to day management of FIM, but will remain involved with key clients.

Philip was a founder director and shareholder of FIM Capital in January 2006 and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. 

He holds a number of directorships of listed companies and collective investment schemes.

Philip said: ’I will continue to be actively involved with key client relationships in our business but after over 40 years in the fund industry look forward to reducing my day to day involvement in the company.

Graham Smith

Graham Smith has been appointed as chief executive Officer.

Graham is a graduate of Cambridge University and a chartered accountant.

He has more than 30 years’ financial management experience, primarily in the life assurance and investment funds sectors, spanning privately owned and major blue chip companies, and has been with FIM Capital for 10 years.

In addition to his position as CEO of FIM Capital he serves on the board of a number of client companies, both quoted and private.

He is fluent in German and conversant in French, but his international business experience and interests are by no means limited to Europe.

Russell Collister

Russell Collister has been appointed chief investment officer.

Russell has more than 30 years of continuous experience in the investment management industry.

He has worked for both small and large investment management companies specialising in managing discretionary investment portfolios for private clients and institutions.

Russell has a particular interest in the quoted property sector having worked as a property analyst managing specialist property and income funds for many years.

Russell was also a founder director and shareholder of FIM Capital in 2006 and is an individually chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment in the UK and a chartered wealth manager.

Andrew Dawson

Andrew Dawson who was one of the first employees of FIM in 2006 was appointed as chief operating officer in 2016.

In addition to his general management responsibilities as COO Andrew plays a key role in establishing and running new funds that the company is asked to administer.

Andrew, an associate member of Chartered Certified Accountants, joined the company from Northern Trust (formerly Barings) where he had spent five years.

Andrew is responsible for developing and managing all operational aspects of the fund administration business.

Ralph Haslett

Ralph Haslett has been appointed chief technical officer.

Ralph joined FIM Capital in September 2015 as head of investment operations and recently gained additional responsibility as head of IT (outsourced solutions).

Over the previous 25 years, he held a broad range of investment related roles in the financial services industry.

This has provided him with a wealth of experience covering: team and supplier management, project management, relationship management, bid/tender management, legal, company secretarial, credit risk, back office operations along with all aspects of third party fund administration.

Ralph is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, a Member of the Chartered Management Institute and a Certified PRINCE2 Practitioner.
