Members of the island’s business community are being invited to take part in a new golf championship at Castletown Golf Links.

The inaugural MAC IoM Business Golf Championship will take place on Thursday, July 18.

The event is a joint initiative between financial firm the MAC Group and Castletown Golf Links.

Castletown Golf Links spokesman Johnny Evans said while there will be be plenty of prizes on offer it will also be a great opportunity to network and spend quality time with colleagues, clients and friends in stunning surroundings.

And the day coincides with the first day of what is arguably the greatest championship in golf, the Open.

This will be taking place at Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim for only the second time.

The first Open Championship there was 68 years ago in 1951 and this year’s event looks like being an event to remember for sports fans.

Teams will be made up of two players. One player is required to be from the entering company, but the other player doesn’t need to be. The event can be a full or half day experience as suits players.

Mr Evans said: ‘The main event will begin from 1pm with a shotgun start but we’ll have our new range experience setup for all players early on, The Open live in the clubhouse, sweepstake for The Open taking place, and refreshments both before and after play.

‘We’ll be at the Links from the very first shot (in the Open) and we hope to see lots of people on the day.’
