More than 50 staff based at an island company gave the thumbs-up when their bosses treated them to an amazing all-expenses paid trip to Iceland.
Award-winning telecoms provider plan.com sent employees on the once-in-a-lifetime break in the Nordic island country.
Staff spent three days experiencing some of the world’s most spectacular sights, including exploring the Golden Circle in a convoy of plan.com monster trucks, snowmobiling across a glacier, diving head first into the Blue Lagoon and hunting down the Northern Lights.
Details of the trip were first revealed by Business News in our sister paper the Examiner, last July. The business communications provider had been celebrating after moving the headquarters to offices on the second floor of IOMA House in Hope Street, Douglas, over a single weekend.
The majority of the 69 people who went were from the island office.
Kevin Perks, head of human resources at plan.com said: ’Work hard, play hard is not just our company motto, it’s something that we live and breathe. We worked incredibly hard in 2017 and continued to see unprecedented levels of business growth.
’Iceland was a reward to our colleagues for their passion and dedication.
’It was an opportunity to get everyone together and to remind ourselves that hard work pays off.’
The icy adventure was kick-started with ’staff.live’, an internal event that brought the entire company together. In fitting with the Icelandic theme, the company hired out a jet hangar at Ronaldsway and inflated a huge igloo marquee to hold their annual staff awards ceremony as well as setting out the company’s vision for 2018.
Nicola Patterson, PA to plan.com founder and owner Dan Craddock, said: ’From the jet hangar, we boarded the plane to Iceland for a weekend of frozen waterfalls, sparkling lagoons, glitz, glamour and gorgeous food.’
So, why Iceland?
Nick Verardi, plan.com chief operating officer, said: ’We’re a very ambitious company and like to set the standard. Iceland was on a number of our bucket lists; it exceeded our expectations and will live in everyone’s memories for years to come.
’On a business level, we hope it helps to retain the talented people who work for us, as well as attract fresh talent to our company.’
It wasn’t all good news, however. Nick said: ’We didn’t get to see the Northern Lights. The visibility factor was low, but we found the tallest bar in Reykjavik and spent the whole night up on their roof terrace looking for the light show.
’We’re used to dedication and commitment, so we didn’t give up until the bar closed.
’To be honest, there was so much to see and do that most people hardly noticed that one of the world’s natural wonders didn’t make an appearance/’
The company says it is always looking for exceptional people to join the plan.com family.
