A law firm has partnered with the Manx Blind Welfare Society in a will writing initiative.

But the scheme only runs until the end of November.

Earlier this year in March the charity linked up with Callin Wild’s legal services for Will Writing Month.

That raised £1,400 for charity, and the two organisations decided to have a similar scheme this month (November).

Throughout March, anyone that quoted the society while using Callin Wild’s legal services to make a will received a discount on legal fees, with 50% of the fees received donated to the blind and visually impaired charity.

With fewer people than anticipated able to take advantage of the special scheme because of Covid-19, a decision was made to run it again throughout November to coincide with Callin Wild’s ‘Power of Attorney Month’.

An Enduring Power of Attorney (EPOA) enables a person to appoint someone to make decisions on their behalf in respect of their property and affairs, providing people the opportunity to exert more control over their future if it comes to a point where they can no longer manage their own affairs due to some form of incapacity.

The law firm has been running a special offer on EPOAs throughout November, which includes a reduced rate for preparing the document and 50% of fees received donated to the Society.

Marc Furness, partner at Callin Wild, said: ‘Understandably, people tend to only start thinking about wills and EPOAs later in life, or in some cases, they are just not on the radar at all. In terms of a will, if you were to pass away without one, it could cause difficulties for your loved ones as they may not be automatically entitled to your assets.’

Manx Blind Welfare Society volunteers coordinator and events organiser Debbie Thomson said: ‘We are pleased to offer island residents another chance to get involved this year whilst at the same time getting involved in the Power of Attorney Month.

‘We always try to encourage our members to take a proactive approach in dealing with their affairs and both of these schemes provide them with the perfect opportunity to do so.’
