Planning permission has been granted for a former electrial shop to be transformed into a wine warehouse with a deli/cafe.
Government planners have approved plans for The Wine Cellar to move from its current store in Tennis Road, Douglas to the former Waltons Digital World store in Peel Road.
The decision notices states it is for Campbell Moore Limited seeking ’alterations, erection of front extension to provide entrance porch and change of use from retail of electrical goods and warehouse to retail of wine and liquor warehouse and a deli/cafe.’
The retail space will be 193 square metres and the cafe 109 metres.
Permission was granted with these limits highlighted along with a statement the layout of the interior cannot be altered ’as this may materially alter the nature of the use and the proposal has been accepted on the basis that the office and meeting room is ancillary’.
For the purpose of protecting the former railway route, the new occupants will not be allowed to build any containing barrier to the rear of the property.
In a planning statement accompanying the application (18/00113/B) it was revealed The Wine Cellar’s move to Peel Road came about because of a change in circumstances at their current location.
’After 27 years of tenancy at the existing premises the new landlord does not wish to renew the lease and the applicant has been actively searching for new premises for approximately 12 months.
’The application site at The Milestone would be ideal for a continued operation and expansion of the business.’
The store will be able to operate until 7.30pm and the owners plan to open the cafe until 11pm, Thursdays to Saturdays.
Also included in the application were plans for opening the cafe in the evenings for wine courses and tastings sessions, with the rest of the site being used for storage and retail.
The area has 53 shared parking spaces.
