A cake artist from Peel, who was a finalist at the Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence 2019, has won more praise for her efforts at a UK competition.
Aimee Ford of award winning local business Butterfingers has been awarded ’highly commended’ in the Cake Business category at The Cake Professionals Awards.
Only professional cake designers who have long standing businesses are allowed to enter with the Isle of Man being represented by Aimee in the north west category.
Businesses were judged on a wide range of categories from marketing to finances and customer service.
Those with the highest scoring percentage were awarded regional winners or highly commended, with only eight businesses meeting the tough criteria, of which Aimee was one.
She will be also be presented with a highly commended award for one of her wedding cakes designed for Niamh and Chris Hughes wedding in 2019, which was held at Amisfield House in Ramsey.
Aimee said: ’To be recognised as one of the best cake businesses in the UK in terms of not just design, but the all-important business side too, is astounding.
’To have one of my unique wedding cakes recognised as well is the cherry on the cake!’
She will collect her awards in March in Reading.
The cake designer has won multiple awards at the world’s biggest cake competitions, such as Cake International and International Salon Culinaire.
In 2018, Aimee described the moment she was awarded a gold and silver award at Cake International as ’an incredible feeling, like I was on top of the world’.
She went against more than 1,900 entrants from around the globe at the cake-decorating competition that was held in Birmingham.
Only 21 gold awards were presented at the event, with her Peel beach-inspired cake gaining gold and her wedding cake winning a silver award.
In 2019, she was named as a finalist for the Innovation and Independent Thinking category at the Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence.
