Sulby Claddagh is due to re-open before TT Practice Week following extensive flooding.
Owned and operated by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA), the site’s camping season was meant to commence on May 1.
But due to heavy rainfall over the winter, the campsite is now scheduled to open on May 21.
A DEFA spokesman said flooding had prevented access to the site’s toilet facilities and septic tank. Work is underway to dry out the space around the toilet block to enable inspection of the sewerage system and other infrastructure.
A DEFA spokesman said: ’The department recognises the importance of the Sulby Claddagh to locals and TT visitors for camping. Online camping permit applications will recommence in the next few days with a view to reopening the site for camping on May 21. The department apologises for any inconvenience caused.’
Sulby Claddagh is not a registered campsite, but informal camping is usually permitted during the Easter weekend and from May 1 to September 30. The campsite was also closed over Easter due to flooding.
