The Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association will be on tour around the island, using one of the island-based ambulances to bring cancer awareness information to the local community.

The Information Ambulance will be equipped with a range of information materials, with health professionals on board to help answer any questions people may have relating to the signs and symptoms of cancer, or cancer screening. It also has a private area where they can discuss any concerns in confidence.

Malcolm Clague, chairman of Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association, said: ’We know that the earlier the stage the tumour is at the time of diagnosis means less aggressive treatment as well as getting back to doing what you want to do sooner and a greater chance of a cure. So, it is very important to know and understand the early signs and symptoms of cancer.

’If you have a question about cancer that has been bothering you for a while, don’t worry if you feel is too "trivial" or "silly" to bother the doctor about, drop by and see us to find out the answer.’

He added: ’The Information Ambulance is all about educating the local community and providing the opportunity to get any questions answered, no matter how big or small.’

Delivering this service to the community is just part of the charity’s work. It is involved in a number of local projects, including the Staywell Clinic which offers cervical screening.

The charity also raises money to fund research into cancer, its causes and its treatment; and fund equipment at hospitals in the UK which treats Manx patients.
