Six candidates have come forward to stand for three positions on the board of Malew Commissioners in an upcoming by-election.

Company director Nigel Bazley, retail manager John Chamberlain, and ’homemaker’ Tanya Mackrell will all take part in the contest, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 12.

They’ll be joined by Isle of Man Green Party candidate Leo Cussons, IT and finance professional Kurt Roosen and company director Kevin Oliphant-Smith, who was elected a councillor in Douglas in 2016 but resigned after six weeks and has already announced his intention to stand as MHK at the next general election in two years’ time.

The period for nominations closed this week.

The three vacant seats became available in July after chairman Bob Pilling resigned, a move swiftly followed by members Barbara and John Brereton.

Their departures meant the Ballasalla-based local authority was not quorate so could not make any decisions.

The successful candidates will join remaining commissioners, vice-chair Margaret Mansfield and Janice Knighton.
