The identity of the new owner of the Castle Mona Hotel remains unknown - three months after the landmark property was sold.

The iconic Douglas Promenade building, which was listed at a reserve price of £750,000, sold at Lambert Smith Hampton auctioneers in London for £1,210,000 on May 14.

On July 3, the Sefton Group confirmed the sale had been finalised. But the buyer was not identified.

Sefton Group chief executive Brett Martin told the Manx Independent: ’We can confirm that the buyer is an unconnected party to the Sefton Group PLC and we continue to respect the request for privacy on behalf of the purchaser.’

The Sefton Group also stated it would not be making any further comments on the Castle Mona.

Under Manx law, transactions are required to be registered within three months of the purchase, unless an extension is granted by the Land Registry.

Given the Sefton Group’s date of July 3, the new owners should be registering ownership of the land by October 3.

Any other delay is likely to cause problems for the new owner as this can make registering an ownership transaction more difficult.

When the Manx Independent checked with the Land Registry this week, it was confirmed that no application to register the land transaction or to seek an extension had been received between May and August 2018.
