The funeral details have been announced for a competitor who died during this year’s Manx Grand Prix.

Sam Naughton, 37, of Castletown, lost his life following an incident during an afternoon practice session on August 19.

The gas engineer ended up in a ‘wooded area’ following the incident at Doran’s Bend, near Glen Helen.

An inquest into Sam’s death was opened earlier this month, during which it was revealed that a post-mortem examination identified the medical cause of death as a base of skull fracture following a motorcycle collision.

Coroner James Brooks said: ‘Mr Naughton’s body can now be released to the family so funeral arrangements can take place. I extend my condolences to his family and friends for their loss.’

Posting on social media shortly after the tragedy, Sam’s wife Charlotte said: ‘I don’t think I’ll ever process yesterday. I am absolutely broken beyond belief.

‘Sam was my absolute world, my best friend, my partner in crime.’

TS Keggen & Son Funeral Directors has now announced details of Sam’s funeral arrangements.

The announcement says: ‘It is with sadness that we have been asked to announce the funeral arrangements for the late Sam Naughton.

‘Devoted husband of Charlotte, treasured daddy of Bonnie, Liam, Jesse and Parker, cherished son of Viv and the late Don and step son of Steve, loved son in law of Serena and the late Steve, dear brother in law of Leanna and a much loved uncle of Phoebe, Rhys and Jake.’

A celebration of Sam’s life will take place at 11am on Friday, September 25, at Douglas Lawn Cemetery on Johnny Watterson Lane, Douglas.

The family has requested no flowers, with donations in lieu going to The Billy Redmayne Memorial Fund in Ramsey.
