Eugene Wilson’s amazing fundraising efforts on behalf of the Anthony Nolan Trust were recognised with a trip to the charity’s London headquarters for a very special commemoration.

The Anthony Nolan Trust carries out research into cures for blood cancer and other blood disorders and matches people willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to people who desperately need lifesaving transplants.

Eugene’s daughter, Lisa, died in 2005 from leukaemia and, in the 14 years since then, he has raised more than £87,000.

The charity had invited him to place a plaque with Lisa’s name on it on their Wall of Recognition.

During the visit he also had a chance to see the research he has helped to fund where advances in science can now provide even more accurate matches between donors and patients.

Eugene said: ’The day was extremely emotional but also very informative.’

Eugene, who works as a nurse at Hospice, has raised the money through a number of initiatives including runnng 13 marathons and holding numerous cake sales and open mic nights at pubs around the island.
