A charity concert inspired by a mother’s struggle with lung cancer, takes place in Douglas this weekend.

’Skyscraper’, an evening of music, dance and variety entertainment, which takes place at the Kensington Youth Arts Centre tomorrow night (Saturday), from 7pm, has been organised by Danielle Christian, to raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation Isle of Man, after watching her adopted mother, Heather, fight her own battle with the disease.

’My mum, Heather, is a patient advocate for this charity and is helping to get it established on the Isle of Man,’ said Danielle.

She has put together a packed show, featuring many of the young acts that meet and rehearse in the Youth Arts Centre, Kensington Road, Douglas, and has enlisted one or two special guests to help.

’We will be welcoming our special guests David Artus and Joey Wylde,’ she said. ’I can’t wait to see them performing here. David is a fantastic singer and a great actor, as is Joey. I’m so excited.

’I saw David in the recent production of Les Miserables, and I just thought he was incredible.

’He has been very helpful, and was more than happy to perform for my show.

’He is singing "The King Song" from the musical Hamilton, and "Stars" from Les Mis, along with the 80s song "Footloose".

’I know Joey well, as he directed a version of High School Musical here at the Youth Arts Centre, which I was part of.

’He’ll be singing an original song, one that he wrote himself, along with the songs ’Drops of Jupiter’ and ’Wait For It’, again from the musical Hamilton.

Also appearing on the night are the current Next Big Thing title holders Zac Colligan and David Livesy and former winner, magician Giles Beaumont, along with singers Grace Lee and Jasmine Colligan.

There will also be several dance performances from Beth Brown, Mary and Anne Teare, Caitlin McAleer, and from Danielle herself.

’I am dancing to the song "Skyscraper", by Demi Lovato, said Danielle.

’I called the show song, as the message is about being broken down, but then rising up like a skyscraper.

’But I am putting on this show as I want to thank my mum for the unconditional love and support she has given to both my brother and I.

’I just hope that a lot of people come along, enjoy the show and help me raise a lot of money for a good cause.’

Tickets for Skyscraper are £10 and are available by telephoning the Youth Arts Centre on 437339 or by emailing [email protected]
