Mannin Sepsis has donated a FilmArray blood analyser to Noble’s Hospital’s Pathology Laboratory.
In its biggest fundraising project to date, the charity raised more than £28,000 to pay for the new piece of equipment which tests blood samples for life-threatening conditions,
including sepsis.
The Pathology laboratory at Noble’s already has a FilmArray which can deliver the results of blood tests within one hour, vital in allowing doctors to deliver time-critical treatment for conditions such as sepsis.
However, in the event of it needing a repair or maintenance, blood samples would need to be sent to the UK for testing which could take up to five days.
The two machines are now run in turn and each provides cover for the other one.
John Struthers, a director of Mannin Sepsis, said: ’Members of Mannin Sepsis would like to thank the Manx public and other organisations who donated to enable £28,823.50 to be raised in just over five months.
’This purchased the blood testing machine and two years maintenance cover.
’We are reassured that blood samples can continue to be checked in Noble’s Pathology Laboratory within an hour for sepsis and other life threatening conditions.’
The new machine has been given the name Misty, which stands for ’Mannin Sepsis Thank You.’
