Teenager Charlie Rixon proved that the island’s hills were no match for his unicycle and sheer determination.

The 17-year-old filmmaker, from near Royston, in Hertfordshire, unicycled around the island over four days.

The adventure was filmed by his two friends Matthew Owen and Milo Abbiss, and they plan to enter a documentary into adventure film festivals next year.

Charlie told the Manx Independent: ’All round I found the trip really difficult.

’But with the right people around you holding up the correct support and motivation you can pretty much do anything.’

He said they were really pleased with the warm welcome they received from residents.

’Everyone was so supportive I was so surprised,’ he said.

’People would call out things like "well done!" and such and I found it really motivating.’

The adventure was in aid of youth mental health charity Young Minds.

The charity is close to Charlie’s heart as he has previously suffered from paranoia, depression, anxiety and stress.
