The Harbour2Harbour walk, which takes place in May, is an event for everyone in the community - just ask veteran walker Charlie Quirk.

Charlie, from Port St Mary, has participated in every Harbour2Harbour walk since it started five years ago.

The 74-year-old is keen to keep fit and exercises regularly, despite having had a heart operation nine years ago.

Charlie said: ’I would encourage anyone and everyone to get involved with the 2018 Harbour2Harbour walk, it is something I look forward to every year and is a fantastic event suitable for all. It is also good to know that I am helping to raise money for charities that will have a positive impact on people in my community.’

’In spite of my condition, I like to try and make the most out of life and experience new things as much as possible. I like to think that if I can complete a 9-mile walk, anyone can!

’I like to make sure I am in tip-top condition and feeling fit in time for the walk by putting in a few hours of training prior to the event. It is always enjoyable to step outside in Spring and breathe in some fresh Manx air.

The fundraising walk will take place on Sunday, May 21, and see participants of all ages and abilities walk from Castletown to Port Erin.

For the second year running there will be also be a starting point at Port St Mary Harbour, for those who don’t feel able to walk the full nine miles.

The money raised will support several community initiatives, including The Hub, Men in Sheds, SPort Erin and Beach Buddies.

Fancy dress is encouraged on the day, with a prize awarded for the best-dressed, and dogs are more than welcome to come along and enjoy a ’walkie’.

Online entries will open on 1st March via: my5.raceresult.com/90262/. Application forms are also available in Shoprite stores and Isle of Man Post Office branches.

The event is sponsored by property developer Dandara
