An international gathering of choirs, which takes place on the island every two years, has become the latest event to be postponed .

The Festival of Choirs, a three-day event which sees choirs travel from all over the UK and beyond to sing and compete at the Villa Marina during October, has been pushed back a year.

Following a successful event, held in 2019, the next festival was due to take place in October this year, with many choirs already setting their sights on taking part.

However, due to both the current travel restrictions and the lack of rehearsal times for many of the UK-based choirs, the organisers led by former MHK Geoff Corkish, were faced with no option but to postpone.

’Our festival has become a most popular event for choirs and choral groups and we already had five UK choirs in addition to our local choirs ready to enter this year following the success of our 2019 event,’ said Geoff.

’Many choirs and choral groups could find it difficult to reform after such a long time of suffering lockdown and we can only hope that the promise of our rescheduled festival in October 2022 will help to provide a focal point for rehearsals to resume and to focus on competition entry here on our island at our prestigious choral event.’
