The 70th annual general meeting of the Friends of Noble’s Hospital that took place this week marked the last chaired Chris Kelly, who stood down as chairman after serving for the last six years.

In his final report as chairman Mr Kelly announced that during 2018 the charity committed to provide a range of medical equipment and resources to boost patient comforts at a cost just over £105,000.

Mr Kelly noted that over the year the charity had benefitted from a number of bequests and based on that he foresaw the ability for the charity to continue to provide support of a similar level in the current year.

He also thanked the Scheinberg family for their continued support over the year.

The members then heard a short presentation from Nobles’s Hospital medical director Tim Kerruish, who outlined the strategy for the hospital and explained how the support from the Friends had benefited patients.

Mr Kelly who has been involved with the charity for more than 15 years.

The board of directors of the charity gave Mr Kelly gifts on his retirement from the role and at the meeting.

Board director Kevin Kneen expressed everyone’s gratitude and respect for the role that Mr Kelly has played in the success of the charity.

Mr Kelly said: ’I have enjoyed being involved in such a worthwhile charity and it has given me great pleasure over the years to know that through the charity’s work we are making life better for patients at Noble’s Hospital.

’I feel that now is the right time to relinquish the chairman’s role and step down from the board of the charity.

’I leave with fond memories and would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my time as chairman.

’Through the charity I have been particularly pleased that we have been able to provide support to purchase some very expensive and much needed medical equipment, but I have equally been delighted with the smaller items such as the toys we provide for children visiting the blood clinic or the courtesy packs that make an unexpected overnight stay more bearable.’

Mr Kelly is being succeed as chairman by Kevin Kneen, who has served on the board since 2009 and has previously held the role of honorary treasurer.

Mr Kelly is being replaced on the board by Steve Zybert who was appointed as a director at the meeting.

The Friends of Noble’s Hospital charity was established in 1949 and is solely funded from private donations and bequests.
