Dive into the world of really wild animals and untamed nature at the Gaiety Theatre this weekend, along with a well-known TV presenter.

One of the country’s most recognised and respected voices of authorities on wildlife and the countryside is to give an illuminating, informative and entertaining talk on some on nature’s most popular and interesting species.

Chris Packham, the TV naturalist, conservationist and all-round expert on animal and birdlife will appear at the Gaiety on Sunday, November 5, to share his vast knowledge and unshakeable enthusiasm for the natural world in, what he calls, ’A Wild Night Out’.

Since first appearing on our screens fronting the BBC children’s television programme ’The Really Wild Show’, in a youthful pairing with long-time co-presenter Michaela Strachan, Chris has been an ever-present personality and voice of authority when talking and commenting on issues surrounding ecology and the natural world.

He has constantly recieved praise and acclaim for his friendly, enthusiastic and engaging way he approaches his subjects, noticeable on the way his programme ’Cats v Dogs: Which Is Best?’, which blended humorous and informative sketches with serious research.

Only last week, he was on the nightly television series ’Autumn Watch’, revelling in the lives of owls, otters, kestrels and migrating birds.

The list of television programmes he has featured on is as impressive as the amount of awards, both from the TV industry and from wildlife and ornithological organisations.

The ’watch’ series of programmes, which includes ’Spring’ and ’Winter’, alongside the ’Autumn Watch’ programme, was nominated for a BAFTA award, as was ’The Really Wild Show’.

He was made an honorary Doctor of Science by Southampton University in 2013, and in 2014 was named ’Conservation Hero of the Year’ by readers of the ’Birdwatch’ magazine.

In recent years, Chris has also opened in searingly honest fashion about his struggles against depression, and what effect being diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome has had on his life.

Tickets for Chris Packham’s Wild Night Out are £22, and available from The Villa Gaiety box office and the Welcome Centre.
