One of the island’s finest singing talents is to hold a special concert next month.

Christine Collister is to appear at the Villa Marina Arcade on Saturday, September 19, from 8pm, along with a backing band of guest local musicians, including Lindsey Rowe, Fraser Rowe, Jo and Juan Callister and Christy De Haven.

The concert will take in songs from Christine’s 37-year career, which has seen her sing with some of the finest blues, rock and folk groups and resulted in her being regarded as one of the UK’s finest blues-soul singers.

After leaving the Isle of Man in the mid-1980s, where she honed her craft singing in the pubs, clubs and bars around the island, she went on to join the legendary English guitarist Richard Thompson.

After recording six albums and touring the world several times over, she appeared at Richard Thompson’s 70th birthday concert, held last year at the Royal Albert Hall, where she shared the stage with, among others, Dave Gilmour, Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy, Hugh Cornwell, Maddie Prior, and many more, with her version of the Thompson classics ’Sweetheart on the Barricade’ and ’Ghosts in the Wind’ being regarded as the highlight of the evening.

Earlier this year she released, a third album with the celebrated group, Daphne’s Flight, ’On Arrival’ and, throughout the lockdown period, has held regular acoustic shows from her Kirk Michael home, with the latest one taking place on Saturday, August 29, available to view on her Facebook page.

Tickets for the Villa Marina arcade show are £14, available from the Welcome Centre and the Villa Marina box office, on 600555, and online from villagaiety.com
