Church members are raising money to help beat poverty in the UK and overseas.
Members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Salisbury Street, Douglas, are continuing to collect donations this weekend to help provide resources and opportunities for those in difficult situations.
The funds raised will go towards the global Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) as part of the ADRA appeal, with every £1 donated being worth up to £9 in matching funds.
This will be used to combat disease or provide water, sanitation and education for those in need around the world.
In 2013, the church managed to raise £12,000 for the appeal by going around Douglas with buckets, asking the public if they would like to give a donation.
This year’s efforts have been ongoing since March 31 and will continue until tomorrow (Sunday).
Pastor Shasha Mugari, who is originally from Zimbabwe, said: ’This is a charity close to my heart because I know what it was like having to walk miles to reach water in Africa.
’So far the general response [towards the fundraiser] has been good.’
