Classic musical comedy The Producers is set to hit the boards at the Gaiety Theatre.
The Broadway musical, based on Mel Brooks’ Academy Award-winning film, is being recreated by Douglas Choral Union.
It will run from May 6 to May 20, with a total of 11 performances. It’s the first time the show has been performed in the island.
The musical debuted on Broadway in 2001 and ran until 2007, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards.
It opened in London’s West End in 2004 and has since enjoyed two UK tours.
The show tells the story of New York producer Max Bialystock, who has been left impoverished after a string of flops, as he recruits timid accountant Leopold Bloom to help him pull off Broadway’s greatest scam.
They aim to produce the worst show ever and run away with millions, but they soon learn that show business can kick you in the teeth.
It is being sponsored by accountancy firm PwC.
